About Vishnupur Gharana
- Vishnupur Gharana Started at 18th Century with Singing Dhrupad, Khayal and playing Sitar,Surbahar.
- Famous artists are Jadu Bhatto, Ramprasanno Bandyopadhyay,Gopeswar Bandyopadhyay, Padmashree Surendranath Bandyopadhyay, Gyan Gosain, Satyakinkar Bandyopadhyay, Amiya Ranjan Bandyopadhyay(The senior most vocalist in the history of Bengal).
- First maiden Gramophone record in khayal in 1902 " Tara Parameshwari " by Lal Chand Baral,who learnt under Ramprassanna Bandyopadhyay (Vide “Sangeet Chandrika”) published by Gramophone Concert and Nicole.
- First Dhrupad record In 1902 "Naad Bidya Sabse Sera" Raag Darbari,Taal Choutal,by Surendranath Bandyopadhyay published by Gramophone Concert.
- Third Gramophone Record on Sitar by Gopeswar Bandyopadhyay.
- Ramprasanna Bandyopadhyay was the foremost Surbahar and Sitar Artist of India up to 1928(Vide: Sarojini Naidu’s memoirs, Pramoth nath chowdhuries writings).
- Rabindranath Tagore considered Radhikaprosad Goswami as his mentor and later on his mentor was Gopeswar Bandyopadhyay.
- Bhatkhand desired to be a disciple of Radhika Prasad Goswami since he found the most authentic renditions of the ragas and the most exhaustive repertoire of songs in Vishnupore Gharana (Reference:-Brammhoman by Dilip Kumar & Jugantor).
- In 1921 when Prince Edward came to visit India, six artists of various gharanas were chosen to perform six Ragas for six Seasons. Three of them were from VIshnupore Gharana .Gopeswar Bandyopadhyay, Satyakinkar Bandyopadhyay and Khetra Mohan Goswami.
- Amiya Ranjan Bandyopadhyay is the first Ph.D. holder in Bengal in 1968 in Esthetics of Music.
- Under the able guidance of Amiya Ranjan Bandyopadhyay, 14 of his students stood first in All India Radio Competition(A.I.R.).
- At present Amiya Ranjan Bandyopadhyay is the senior most performers in Bengal. He is 82 years of age.
- Santanu Bandyopadhyay invented the mystery behind taan which was recognized by Bowling Green University of USA in 2004.He is also working on the improvement of voice with the help of Vocal Science.
- Santanu Bandyopadhyay was the first Indian who performed at Lincoln Memorial in Washington, USA in 2006.
